Permission for minors to travel abroad
Permission for minors is a documented authorisation required by Uruguayan law for minors, whether they are Uruguayan nationals or foreign nationals with legal residence or in the process of obtaining it, and those who, without being so, have been residing in the country for more than one year, who wish to leave Uruguayan territory.
This authorisation must be granted by the parents exercising parental authority, by the minor's legal guardian or by means of judicial authorisation. Exceptions to this requirement are cases where the minor is travelling accompanied by their parents or guardian, or where they hold a valid Uruguayan passport.
For further information, please contact the National Immigration Directorate, the competent authority in this matter.
Who can apply?

Requirements
- Valid birth certificate of the minor, if available. If the certificate is foreign, it must be no more than one year old and be duly apostilled and translated by a Uruguayan public translator. If the certificate is Uruguayan, it must be no more than 30 days old (it can be requested at the Consulate).
- If the person applying for the permit at the Consulate does not present the minor's valid birth certificate, it must be presented in Uruguay by the responsible adult to whom the permit is granted.
- Valid identity document in good condition of the authorising mother and/or father.
- Copy of the minor's valid identity document.
- Copy of the valid identity document of the responsible adult who is authorised and who will apply for the permit in Uruguay (may or may not be the same person).
