Commemorative Event for International Women’s Day

Within the framework of International Women’s Day, the Government of Uruguay presented the accountability report for the first year of its administration regarding gender equality policies. During the central event, held at the Executive Tower and attended by national authorities, progress made on the commitments assumed in March 2025 was highlighted, reaffirming gender equality as a State commitment and a priority of public policy.
The presentation included a report on the 90 initial commitments adopted by the government, which have been translated into 139 concrete actions in key areas such as women’s economic autonomy, the prevention of gender-based violence, comprehensive health, cultural transformation, and the strengthening of the National Gender System. According to the data presented, 82% of these actions have already been completed or are currently in the process of implementation.
Among the measures promoted are initiatives aimed at improving women’s access to employment and productive resources, strengthening the care system, promoting women’s participation in strategic fields such as science and technology, and expanding policies for the prevention of and response to gender-based violence. Authorities emphasized that, although significant progress has been achieved, advancing toward substantive equality requires sustained comprehensive public policies and the ongoing commitment of society as a whole.
