The Embassy of Uruguay in Sweden was pleased to participate in the Open Seminar and Screening of the Documentary "The snow between them" which took place on Wednesday, April 23rd, at the Nordic Institute for Latin American Studies (NILAS) at Stockholm University, Sweden.

At the beginning of the event, the documentary ""The snow between them" was screened, a co-production between Uruguay, Sweden, and Chile, from 2023. An old Zen proverb about snow says: "A snowflake never falls in the wrong place." In other words, it suggests that nothing happens by chance. This proverb, which merges a natural phenomenon as emblematic as snow with human experience, leads us to question the value of the events of our past and the decisions we make about it.

• Synopsis: Inés travels to Kiruna and remembers her past in exile in Sweden, preserved in the hundreds of handwritten letters she exchanged with her father, who was imprisoned in Uruguay for 14 years during that country's military dictatorship. Through these letters, they shared dreams and difficulties in the struggle against absence, where writing and family became a bridge to one day be together again.

Following the documentary, a fascinating panel/open seminar was held, with the participation of:

• Inés Claudia and Verónica Noueched, protagonists of the documentary;
• Juan Carlos Cruz Suárez, Professor of Spanish Literature and specialist in Memory and Human Rights at the Department of Romance and Classical Languages ​​at Stockholm University;
• Dr. Andrés Rivarola Puntigliano, moderator, Professor of Latin American Studies at the Nordic Institute for Latin American Studies, Stockholm University (NILAS).

The event was produced in collaboration with the NILAS Institute and PANORAMICA Stockholm Latinoamerikanska Film Festival. Finally, our Embassy hosted a small reception for the event participants.
