Proof of Life Certificates

Important Notice – Change in the Validity of Life Certificates (BPS)

The Uruguayan community residing in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark is hereby informed that, as of July 1, 2025, the Social Security Bank (BPS) has modified the validity periods for the different authorized methods of submitting the Proof of Life Certificate.

The new validity periods are as follows:

  • Biometric facial recognition: extended from 30 to 90 days

  • Physical documentation through the Consulate: reduced from 90 to 60 days

Those who completed the process before July 1, 2025 will retain the original validity period until its expiration. The new provisions apply exclusively to certifications carried out from that date onward.

Biometric facial recognition is a fast, secure, and fully remote method that allows you to submit your Proof of Life from home, without having to visit the Consulate. To use this option, you must:

  • Hold a valid Uruguayan identity card

  • Have a BPS Personal User Account

If you need to renew your identity card, you can consult the procedure at the following link:

To obtain a BPS Personal User Account, you can find all the information and requirements at:

Please note that the biometric option is only available to individuals who hold a Uruguayan, Argentine, or Spanish identity document, and the document used must match the one registered for receiving the benefit.
