Consular assistance and protection

  • Transportation of ashes or mortal remains to Uruguay
  • Assistance to injured people
  • Information and advice to family members in cases of accidents, deaths or catastrophes
  • Interest in Uruguayan citizens detained or in prison and, under certain circumstances, transmission of messages to their relatives
  • Protection of minors or incapacitated persons, especially in relation to guardianships or conservatorships
  • Verification that citizens on trial have adequate defense and due process is respected
  • Request for the whereabouts of people before local authorities
  • Attention to inheritance issues of Uruguayan citizens who died abroad
  • Contact with family members to report situations and needs
  • Guidance on legal, medical, notarial assistance, among others

What can a Consulate not do for you?

Uruguayan consulates have specific consular assistance and protection functions. However, they are not authorized to carry out the following procedures:

  • Carry out procedures related to visas issued by the People´s Republic of China
  • Apply for the issuance, extension or modification of visas to enter or remain in the People´s Republic of China
  • Request extensions or extensions of stay as a tourist
  • Intervening as a party in legal proceedings or preventing a person from being sent to prison
  • Provide legal advice or act on your behalf in court
  • Manage preferential treatment in hospitals, prisons or other institutions in the country of residence
  • Perform functions typical of travel agencies, airlines, banks or other private companies
  • Provide tickets or economic resources to return to Uruguay or continue their journey, except in exceptional cases of humanitarian repatriation
  • Take care of the payment of personal bills (accommodation, medical assistance, legal, etc.)
  • To manage accommodation, employment, residence or work permits, or to act as a guarantor.
  • Regularise your immigration status with local authorities of the People´s Republic of China
