Technologist, Infrastructure Manager EMBRC-UP, Naples. EMBRC UP (Unlocking the Potential for Health and Food from the Seas) is the Italian strategic project for the implementation and enhancement of EMBRC IT, the national node of the European Marine Biological Resource Centre (EMBRC ERIC). It is funded under Italy’s PNRR Mission 4 “Education and Research” with national and EU NextGenerationEU resources. The project strengthens research infrastructures for marine resources by upgrading equipment, digital platforms, and distributed facilities, fostering access, collaboration, and competitiveness in marine biology, health, and food research.
EMBRC UP builds on EMBRC ERIC international cooperation through Horizon Europe projects, including AQUASERV and activities aligned with InfraDev priorities. Its Transnational Access services have been used by researchers from EU and non‑EU countries, fostering capacity building, networking, and interoperability. These engagements enhance collaboration with European and global research infrastructures, supporting integration into broader scientific and innovation programmes.

Research Infrastructure Manager, MIRRI-IT, Turin. MIRRI-IT is Italy’s research infrastructure for microbial resources, designed to support excellent research and innovation in health, agri-food, environment and biotechnology. It integrates microbial collections, data, expertise and specialised services, offering access to authenticated resources, quality standards, scientific support and training. It is a public Joint Research Unit composed of Italian universities, research institutes and hospitals, and serves as the Italian node of MIRRI-ERIC in the wider European RI landscape.
MIRRI-IT has long engaged in international cooperation through its network of collections and institutions, by participating in European initiatives and activities on standards, quality, access, training, data and service integration. Several partner collections are also active in international networks such as ECCO and WFCC. Italy's formal accession to MIRRI-ERIC in 2025 has further strengthened this path by providing a more solid institutional framework for structured cooperation with EU and CELAC partners.
