El sistema nervioso es muy complejo y está formado por muchos tipos de neuronas y otras células. La Biología del Neurodesarrollo estudia aspectos básicos del desarrollo de las neuronas, como por ejemplo la formación, crecimiento y mantenimiento de las ramificaciones neuronales y sus sinapsis. Estos temas son tan básicos que pueden ser estudiados con provecho en prácticamente cualquier animal y en los últimos años hemos aprendido muchísimo gracias a estudios hechos en peces, ratones, aves y gusanos, entre otros animales. En nuestro laboratorio estudiamos temas de desarrollo neuronal haciendo experimentos con la mosca Drosophila melanogaster, uno de los organismos más usados en esta materia.

The nervous system is a very complex structure formed by many types of neurons and other cells. Within the sciences that study the nervous system (Neurosciences) an important and fascinating field of studies is devoted to understand the formation of neurons, how they make their ramifications and establish specific contacts with other cells and other aspects of development, growth and maintenance of the nervous system. In our laboratory we study several questions in this area, using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster for most of our experiments.
