What types of residencies does Uruguay have?

In Uruguay there are two types of residencies:

Permanent

This residency is for people who want to permanently settle in the country.

There are 3 types of permanente residencies:

  • Permanent residency (for persons born or nationalized outside Mercosur countries).
  • Mercosur permanent residency (for persons born or naturalized in Mercosur and associated countries).
  • Permanent residency for Uruguayan family members (father/mother, spouse, cohabitant, sibling of Uruguayan, of any nationality).

Temporary

This residency is ofr people who are participating in an activity in the country for more than 180 days but less than two years.

There are 2 types of temporary residencies:

  • Temporary Residency (2 years).
  • Mercosur Temporary Residency (2 years).
